Michael Meier, Oris regional manager

At the heart of Oris lies its most distinctive creation – the mechanical watch, which captures the essence of watchmaking inherited from a long-standing history. Michael Meier, Oris regional manager, says that the brand places great emphasis on functional, high-quality designs. “Each Oris watch tells a story, inspired by the design highlights and characteristics that come to life, thanks to unparalleled workmanship and attention to detail. In fact, these are the very aspects that make a luxury watch worth the investment.”

In modern life, with the convenience of technology, watches seem to have taken a backseat to their successors, namely smartphones and gadgets. To put it bluntly, they have been relegated to ‘accessory’ status, serving merely as arm candy. Michael explains that because of this, Oris insists on only producing mechanical watches as their repertoire. The logic is simple: mechanical watches not only carry the precious values in watchmaking, but also deliver a more interactive aspect through their myriad intricate yet practical functions.

Touching upon the subject of current trends and younger markets, Meier shares: “The mechanical features of Oris watches are what makes them valuable keepsakes, even until today. If the current generation of consumers is interested in preserving this tradition, they are able to learn even more about mechanical watches through resources like the media and the Internet. When they learn to cherish and love the beauty of these wonderful timepieces, this contributes greatly to our brand’s confidence in the younger market.”

Bearing this in mind, the brand has placed a lot of thought in diversity, launching a variety of styles and functions to meet the discerning needs of varying markets. In Japan, vintage and retro-inspired watches are in demand, whereas on a local front, Malaysian customers prefer something sporty, such as the Oris Aquis.
