Malaysian fashion designer Kittie Yiyi’s design style is known as “bold and funny”. Her bold, unrestricted designs are not only her fashion symbols, but also her expression of life. For her, fashion is an omnipresent art. No matter where, when, or who she is communicating with, it can spark design inspiration in her.
Q: Who is Kittie Yiyi’s favourite fashion icon.
Anna Dello Russo. She is the fashion director of Vogue Japan, shoots street styles, and is a frequent visitor to Fashion Week. I like her attitude when it comes to style, and how she is brave at showing her own personal style.
Q: What are 5 Kittie Yiyi dress-up essentials before going out.
Lipstick, sunglasses, oversized T-shirt, sneakers, and cap. If there is no particular appointment or event on that day, I will probably dress like this. Easy, casual, and comfortable, my favourite!
Q: The most memorable experience of running a fashion brand.
In 2014, I started my first fashion show in KL Fashion Week. I still remember the complex emotions of feeling tense and anxious. Even after running a few fashion shows later, the feeling of the first time is still fresh in my memory.
Q: Where does your design inspiration come from?
My design inspiration jumps out from all over. It can be from anywhere I have been, people I have seen, or things that have happened. I like being unrestricted in my creations, injecting fun and interesting elements into my designs, bringing together a distinctive yet resonating fashion style.
Q: What are Kittie Yiyi’s 3 favourite things to do.
Modeling, designing, and photography. I love my work, and designing, styling, and photography all make me feel the joy of working.
