A passion in discovering new things, a love for life and an attentive mind, these are what makes Choon stand out successfully in the public relations field. Due to his efforts over the years, his career is developing and his business expanding steadily. Besides his passion for work, hard work, patience and being sincere and connecting well with people, as an excellent PR specialist, he’s focused on developing his career as well as in building an upright personality.
Choon has been in the public relations field for 14 years. He studied public relations and gained much experience from working in different public relations agencies. In 2010, he founded his own PR agency, C Creative Communications. To him, public relations is not something that you can handle well just by having good communications skills. An excellent PR specialist not only needs to know everything, he/she also has to be skillful in many things, patient as well as persistent.
Q: From your many years of experience in public relations, how do you solve problems and frustrations?
A: I used to be an impulsive, impatient and less attentive person. Once, it rained at an outdoor event, everything was ruined and a huge amount of money was wasted. I was very upset and didn’t sleep for three days and two nights (laughs). After this lesson, I felt I needed to accumulate more experience, while staying smart and with a clear head when making decisions.
Q: How would you define a successful and outstanding PR specialist?
A: In this competitive field, to be a remarkable PR specialist, one needs to have great interacting skills, writing skills, planning skills as well as problem solving skills to accommodate different circumstances. A PR person is a communicator between the media and clients. You need to pay full attention to all the details and also to ask, listen and understand the outcome that both parties aim for. If a person can do these tasks well, he/she can get many return customers, build a trusting and good relationship with them and make them loyal customers.
Q: What is the biggest challenge in your career?
A: I personally feel that being patient is the biggest challenge. The reason for this is, I meet different people daily and I need more time to understand their personalities and needs. I wish there are 48 hours in a day so that I’ve more time to understand them and handle more things!
Q: What is your idea of a successful man?
A: Putting in a lot of effort is the only way to make a man successful. Some people might succeed earlier. However, if they are not working hard enough, it is difficult for them to accomplish their goals and achievements to the end. Thus, if you want to be successful, try hard and work hard to achieve your goals. As long as you can do this, you can reach your goal by learning from experience and mistakes.
Q: What is your definition of success?
A: I am not going to define success, and I don’t think I’m very successful right now too. My goal is simple, I’m happy as long as I have enough money to travel, haha!
Q: Then, what do you think is the secret to success?
A: If I really achieved the so-called success, I would probably want to retire from my job and enjoy life, haha. I think that I’m just like the turtle in the turtle and rabbit race. I go at my own pace to reach the destination. So, if I want to be successful, I have to be persistent and consistent, and never think that I’m better than others.
Q: Tell us your life motto.
A: Work hard, earn money and travel.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: When I’m free, I like exploring new places and trying delicious food. I love to just walk around without any fixed route, and I might discover some surprises along the way. This helps to inspire me with creative ideas which are useful for my job, effortlessly.
Q: What are your requirements for a good quality of life?
A: I love things which are custom made and personalized, collecting special handcrafted artworks, and enjoy choosing suitable gifts for my friends. Besides putting in efforts in my work, I also enjoy caring about the people around me.
Q: What is the most precious thing in your life?
A: Friendship. I value especially the friendship and trust among people. I think that a relationship can go a long way if you have trust as a foundation.
Q: Are you satisfied with your current life? What is your hope for the future?
A: I’m very satisfied with my life right now. What I want to do is just to be the best that I can, I’m my own boss and I set my own pace. In my twenties, I was very impulsive. With the passage of time, I’ve learnt to slow down my pace, not put too much pressure on myself and go with the flow in my career. My hope for the future is to contribute to society and the next generation with my capabilities.
