From this interview with Dr. Daniel Tan, we got to know the back story of his success and understanding that we need to go through all kinds of hardships before we can grow. A successful man has got to continuously strive for betterment.
Daniel Tan | Chiropractor; Founder of Aligned
Daniel got to know about chiropractic therapy out of curiosity in his younger days and eventually became a chiropractor and opened his own clinic, Aligned Clinic. At the same time, he also took part in modelling competitions and won the title Hottest Hunk in Malaysia 2012/13 which gained him a lot of popularity. Daniel being passionate about his profession, has also produced a number of informative video clips to educate people about the importance of chiropractic health.
Q: How were you exposed to the chiropractic profession?
A: I’ve always wanted to be involved in the health industry since my high school days. This comes especially after I suffered a sports injury when I was young and upon going for chiropractic treatment, I discovered the importance of it and pursued this as a profession after school. When I was learning the chiropractic discipline, I took the initiative to get more hands-on experience at a clinic. This is because I believe that in order to be good at something, we need to put in a lot of effort.
Q: As a doctor and also an entrepreneur, how do you stay competitive?
A: I once read a saying from a book that I truly agree with; “It is easy for people to tell us of principles and teachings, but the successful ones are usually the ones who practice what they preach.” No matter how tough a challenge we are facing, we have to be consistent in pursuing our targets.
Q: What is most unforgettable to you?
A: The most unforgettable thing to me was the time when I newly graduated along with my course mates and we got into a serious agreement due to work related disagreements. I was very young and it left a bitter feeling for me but it helped me to grow.
Q: What is your recipe for success?
A: To me, the recipe for success is to put aside our ego and pride. Very often people argue and become unreasonable because of their ego and are unable to accept what is right.
Q: What is your definition of success?
A: For me, success is not about how much money a person can earn, but rather how much he/she can contribute to society. When we can help other people, good things will also come to us.
Q: Share your life motto.
A: Always aim for the sky. If you fail, you will still reach the clouds.
Q: How do you improve yourself?
A: I enjoy socialising with successful people to learn about their experiences. When there is time, I also read constructive books.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I feel a deep sense of fulfilment by being able to bring happiness to my family.
Q: What is the most important thing for you?
A: For me, principle is the most important because it helps a person build integrity.
Q: Can you give us some chiropractic tips?
A: Many people tend to remain in the same position for a long duration such as sitting or standing. Many at times, it is due to work but I recommend that people change their position every half an hour. If there is discomfort in the spine, I strongly suggest for a check-up because these issues could worsen over time.
Q: In your opinion, what are 3 things that can boost a man’s confidence?
A: The first thing is reading. When a person reads and has good knowledge, he will naturally be more confident. The second thing is to do sports. No matter if it is physical or emotional, exercising will bring out more confidence in a person. The last one is when we can bring value to others.
